AR Magic Window - Birch Aquarium

Mission Statement

1. Prototype an outdoor mirror that uses projection to display data on to the real view of the coast.

2. The display can switch between temperature, swell, current, tide, and biodiversity data.

Target Audience

The visitors of Birch Aquarium

Challenges

1. Displaying a light projection onto a transparent surface in the sunniest US state is near impossible.

2. Finding the right technology and materials that could visibly project onto a transparent surface.

3. Accumulating and displaying the data map into the peripheral angle that matches the visitors' POV.

Solutions

1. Create a shaded area with a canopy or move the exhibit indoors. Perhaps could translate the technology into the fish tank windows.

2. Research different light filtering films. Research AR technology used by Hololens.

3. Use MATLAB to modify the birds eye maps into an angle. Force the visitors to view the window from a fixed viewing angle.
