"The habit of being persistent and making hard-working effort in your work or duties may be a painful activity, but, undergoing a significant change it brings you impressive achievements eventually. "
✿ diligence ✿
Our group started answering the first few parts of the problem set not a long time after it was given so that we wouldn’t need to rush when the deadline nears us. However, I was assigned to answer the problems in the last parts of the probset, so I could only do my share a few days before the deadline.
Given that there was only a short amount of time left before the deadline, I really felt pressured and nervous. Plus, the problems that I was tasked to answer were about the lessons from modules 5 and 6, which I had a hard time understanding and absorbing; and that made me much more worried.
Unfortunately, I felt uneasy and diffident about my answers when I attempted to answer my parts. Fifteen minutes in, I decided to review and dive deep into the lessons we tackled so that I could answer the problems correctly. ♡
I opened our Google classroom and started comprehensively studying the PowerPoint presentations while taking notes of what I needed to remember for the probset. I also watched the video lectures and even answered the learning sheets. Although, because of the limited time, I couldn't dive into the concepts that "deep". However, I now had the confidence that I could answer the problems that I was assigned correctly.
I believe that I was able to take that step because of my diligence. I did not choose to settle for less and just answer the problems without having enough knowledge about the topics; instead, I was diligent in studying because I knew that that was what I needed to finish my parts successfully.
✿ Marked as Resolved ✿
While answering my parts, I kept telling myself, "I got this," and "I know how to solve this." It was a way to remind myself that I must be diligent and also reminded me how proud I would be if I answered all my parts correctly.
The phrase "Marked as Resolved" was one of my main driving forces. As you can see on the attached photos in the image carousel above, my groupmates helped recheck my answers, and they were also kind enough to comment on what I needed to do or to change or where I went wrong. I also characterized diligence in those times. Rather than being disappointed in me for getting my answer wrong, I diligently tried again to get the correct answer. I wasn't scared or worried in any way because of my groupmates' comments; instead, they also became driving forces that pushed me to do well the next chance I got. Given these, "Marked as Resolved" somehow served as a trophy or award for me. ♡
✿ do not be shy to ask ✿
Another attitude that got me through tough times during this quarter was being someone who is not afraid to ask for help. Being a person who is naturally shy and quiet, one life-depleting moment taught me that I needed to overcome my shyness to get through life. One problem in the probset proved to me how important that lesson is. ♡
This right here is the problem that I am talking about. I really had a hard time solving for an answer to this problem since I ended up getting a t value that is not in the t-table.
I was so confused on what to do, I got like three different values for a final answer from the different ways that I tried, but I was sure that those three answers are not just it, that they're all wrong. I also tried reviewing the PowerPoint, looked at the similar examples, but still I didn't know what to do. Finally after some time, I decided to reach out to my groupmates. ✿
✦ “Asking for help is never a sign of weakness. It's one of the bravest things you can do. And it can save your life.” ✦
Honestly, at first, I felt disappointed in myself because I couldn't solve the correct answer to the problem, which was supposed to be an easy one. Asking for help takes a lot of courage, especially since I was once a person who could figure out everything on my own.
I reached out to Aaron and Bella, and I was delighted that they responded kindly to my questions. It turns out Sir Batas sent us a link that we can use if the value we got is not in the t-table. I was actually being careless, which disappointed me, but life continues, and I just laughed it off. I am thankful to Bella for helping me until I got the correct answer. She taught me how to use the link Sir gave us and even tried solving for the right answer. In the end, I got an answer I was confident in, and Bella also helped me recheck everything. ✿
You see, what if I did not ask for help, careless me would've answered the problem wrong, and that would disappoint my groupmates and me.
♥ Diligence + Asking for Help when Needed : Life Essentials ♥
As the impacts of the pandemic slowly fade, we now face new challenges that are not easier compared to our previous obstacles. One problem that one of my school orgs is currently facing is the challenge of having a face-to-face fellowship or activity with one another. Given our present circumstances, where worry is still present in our hearts about being infected with the still-not-gone covid-19 virus, there is no assurance that we can push through a face-to-face activity.
However, I believe that diligence and asking for help whenever we need it are some things that can help us solve this challenge. We must be diligent in waiting until our situation allows us to spend a longer time with each other personally again and not just through video calls. Being diligent in waiting describes eager expectation, hope, anticipation, and longing. This is not the tedious waiting in the dentist’s office but the eager anticipation of the child on Christmas eve. Asking for help is another one. To find a solution to this problem, we must never forget to ask God for help. Asking God for support must be our first choice, not our last resort. We can work together to find solutions for this challenge by praying to God and asking Him for help.
