Station 1: Explore It – Predict, Observe & Justify—Understanding Shifts
Predictive Modeling
Build intuition for how horizontal (phase) and vertical shifts change a trig graph, connect these changes to robot motion, and practice justifying mathematical observations.
Lesson 24
○ TEST
★ JUSTIFY
Start with Graph Comparison & Annotation
Examine two graphs: a standard sine/cosine and a shifted version (either phase or vertical).
Annotate directly on the graphs:
Circle the starting point of each graph.
Draw arrows to show the direction of the shift.
Label the amount and direction of the shift (e.g., “shifted right by pi/4)
Open the Scenario Motion Matching Worksheet and match the graphs below to the scenario.

3. Error Analysis
Identify and correct the error in the scenario, explaining what the correction is and how it affects robot motion.
Checklist
I annotated and labeled both graphs.
I matched graphs to robot scenarios and justified my choices.
I made and justified a prediction about shifting.
I identified and corrected the errors.
