BMCC follows CUNY’s Non-Attendance Policy, meaning that a student can technically not be failed for absences. However, in this course, failure to participate on a regular weekly basis can result in failure.
Participation Policy:
Participation in the academic activity of each course is a significant component of the learning process and plays a major role in determining overall student academic achievement.
As that is the case, I warn you, failure to participate fully in the activities of this course will result in your failure. Our course activities are made up of formative (small) activities and a summative (major) activity- the final paper. The summative activity provides the framework for the summative activity. This is called scaffolding. Completion of the formative activities will help you complete successful summative activities. The opposite is also true, failure to participate in the formative activity will result in poor summative assignments and an overall low or failing grade.
So, while there may be no Attendance Policy in this course, the Participation Policy means that students who succeed participate fully and regularly.
