What if I am injured during a practice and the athletic trainer is not at the school?
If you are injured during a time when the athletic trainer is not at the school and you do not need immediate attention via an urgent care facility or emergency room, email mryan62@mgb.org for further instructions. Coaches also are able to contact me via phone to provide instructions until you can be seen. You may also refer to the common injuries portion of this website for some basic information until you can be seen by myself or another health care provider.
Are athletic trainers employed by Massasoit Community College?
No, athletic training services to Massasoit Community College athletes are provided by Mass General Brigham on a part time basis. Home game coverage, drop in evaluation and treatment time blocks, and appointments by request are provided by MGB athletic training services to Massasoit Community College student-athletes.
Can I use the equipment such as heat packs and whirlpools when an athletic trainer is not there?
No, equipment such as heat packs and whirlpools must be only used with athletic trainer supervision. Please consult with the athletic trainer for a treatment plan that is most appropriate for you. Stretching equipment, foam rollers, ice, and first aid items are available. Please ask your coach or the athletic directors for assistance as needed to access these.
Why do I need to provide a doctor's note to the athletic trainer if I see a physician for an injury or condition?
Athletic trainers work under the direction of physicians. In order to participate in sports again after seeing a physician for an injury, a signed note from the treating physician with the diagnosis and participation status in sports must be received in order for the athletic trainer to decide if you are fit to return to participation.
