You can find the game here : https://etpa.itch.io/rewinder
Rewinder is a "time limited first person parkour game" in which you have the ability to go back in time.
The player can move freely in an ever moving abstract world.
The game's objective is to find a way to exit the world around you which act as a prison for the main character.
The levels are all in constant motion, giving the impression that the prison is alive, and seeks to prevent you from escaping.
Made with Unity.
I worked as game designer, level designer, sound designer and gameplay programmer. Creating blocs behavior, waypoint between different level and objectives to reach them.
I made the level design by searching for the best way to make the player enjoy his journey. So I directed a hundred of playtests to improve the position of each bloc.
I produced musics using FL studio.
In this project, I really understood why I wish to create games : I want to make peoples smile.
This game made us think of a production process based on empathy and listening towards the team, the player and the game.
During the whole production, we were asking ourselves this question : How to easily show and optimise something that looks abstract and oversized.
So we decided to create our world using cubes, and I conceived blocs behavior that could match as many situations as possible.
I also learned how to work with several small levels, keeping the loading screen time reduced and thus effective.
We finally choose to link the music with the player actions. For this, I had to make the music live in a world full of incomprehensible things.
We knew we had to make an unknow world where everyhting is ephemeral and abstract. So I choose to create metrics around a 10x10x10 unity cube.
It allowed me to work on all levels with the easiest shapes. During the production, I could experience about fifty configurations of levels, allowing us to rapidly test a lot of options.
The abstract form of our world, with no limits, was an opportunity to go further into level design process.
At the beginning of the project, I decided to learn how to produce music, as I was frustrated by the hours it took me to research free tunes on the internet.
Taking things in my own hands allowed me to learn a new creative process and to immerse myself into the game's world in a different way.
This also allowed me to learn new softwares such as FL studio, and to experience all the basics and more on how to create music.
