We are Cub Scout Pack 359 of the Osage District in the Greater St. Louis Area Council of Scouting America. Learn more about how Scouting is structured below!
An Elementary aged child who is participating the Cub Scout Program through Scouting America.
A rank is the grade level for Cub Scouts, and allows children of similar abilities to be
grouped together for adventures. The ranks are: Lions (Kindergarten), Tiger (1st grade), Wolves (2nd grade), Bear (3rd grade), Webelos (4th grade) and Arrow of Light (AOL, 5th grade). Children can join scouting at any grade.
A Den consists of all of the children at a specific grade level within a Pack. Dens are identified by their rank badge.
These are twice monthly meetings where each Den works to earn Adventure Loops. Scouts who attend most of the Den meetings will earn their rank. Pack 359 meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 6:15 p.m. We do not publish the location for safety reasons. Please contact us for more information.
A Cub Pack is a group of Elementary aged children who gather together for various activities. Packs are run by the Cub Master, Assistant Cub Master, and Committee Chair and are identified by a number. We are Pack 359.
Similar to Den Meetings, Pack meetings involve all ranks performing the same or similar activites. For example, the first meeting of the year focuses on learning the Bobcat Adventure. Although the Dens will move through stations as a unit, all scouts will be doing the same activities at this Pack Meeting.
Scouts move from one rank to another by completing 6 required and at least 2 elective Adventure Loops. In May, Scouts who have completed all of the required Adventure Loops move to the next rank or “rank up”. These awards are usually given during Pack Meetings.
These are the awards Cub Scouts earn for completing a set of tasks. There are 6 required loops for each rank , plus many elective adventures. Additional electives can be earned at home. The loop(s) each Scout earns are presented at several meetings throughout the year. Loops for the current rank are meant to worn on the official Cub Scout belt, but can also be displayed. All Cub Scouts of Pack 359 will receive a display for their Loops.
Once a scout reaches 4th Grade, they transition from Adventure Loops to Adventure pins. The pins are worn on a tri color ribbon on the right sleeve of the uniform shirt. Pins are earned by both the Webelos and Arrow of Light ranks. These adventures are a little more complicated than the others, so Scouts can prepare for earning merit badges in Scouting BSA. There are still 6 required and numerous elective pins for both ranks.
A Den Leader is an adult volunteer who runs the activities for a specific Den, ensuring their Den earns their rank. A Den Chief is an older scout from BSA Troop 359 who fufills the same role.
The Cub Master is the face of the Pack and the adult leader in charge. They run the opening and closing of Den and Pack meetings, as well as asist with various communications and recruitment. The current Cub Master for Pack 359 is Anna Muhm.
Another adult leader who assists the Cub Master with meetings and crowd control.
This adult leader does all the behind the scence work of the Pack. Everything from liasing with the District leadership to setting up fundraisers, this leader does it all. They also run the parent Committee meetings and work closely with the Cub Master. The current Committee Chair for Pack 359 is Sarah Scroggins.
A definiative activity of Cub Scouts, where Cubs, parents, siblings, and community members design and build a car using and offical Cub Scout car kit, then race against everyone else. Usually held in February, the PWD also has District and Council level events.
Blue and Gold is the name of the annual Birthday of Cub Scouts. Usually celebrated in February or March, this is a pack meeting with special emphasis on ranking up and a party.
Each Cub Pack has another organization it partners with to provide the programming. Pack 359's Charter Organzation is St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Marthasville.
A district is a group of Packs in the same geographic area. Leaders from each Pack gather once month to share best practices, challenges, information,
and more. District sponsor various activities throughout the year, including a Pinewood Derby and campouts. Pack 359 is located in the Osage District.
A council is a large geographic area made up of several districts. The Council sponsors larger activities, camps, scout ranches, and other events throughout the year. Pack 359 is located in the Greater St. Louis Area Council or GSLAC. The Council patch is worn on the left sleeve of the uniform shirt.
This is the name of the national organization. Formerly known as BSA, for those really old poeple, Boy Scouts of America or just The Boy Scouts. Thoughout the years, as the world has changed and girls were welcomed into the program, the name has changed. But the fundamentals of Scouting have and always will remain the same.
