(Pre-instructional activity) Students will complete the pre-assessment in which they choose the stronger of two thesis statements. Then, they will read the chapter on argument in the textbook The St. Martin’s Guide to Writing. Students will also read the sample essay “The ‘I’ in Internet.”
Week 1 – Students will meet as a class on Zoom. The instructor will lecture on the elements of a strong thesis statement, using four “rules” as a guide for students to follow and modeling the revision of thesis statements. Students will be divided into breakout groups to identify the thesis of “The ‘I’ in Internet.” After breakout groups, each group will present findings to the class and explain why.
