Simultaneous Translation Projects
This is a list of my projects for the class Lit46: Simultaneous Translation
Simultaneous Translation requires a translator to listen to what the speaker says in the source language AND render to the listener in the target language simultaneously (hence the name).
For the following projects, we've taken certain videos (all linked in the description of each project) and recorded ourselves using different simultaneous translation techniques. To view the rendered video projects, please go to each project's individual page.
Description: Shadowing or Parroting is listening to a live or recorded speaker, and repeating word for word - and often intonation for intonation - what the speaker is saying. It can be almost anything, depending on your goal." (Spanish)
Topic: For this project, we've taken a short video (in Spanish) with a narration of some kind, and repeated it word for word.
Recording Tool Used: Microsoft ClipChamp. This was very easy to use because it allowed me to record both my screen and my camera at the same time, and even allowed me to rearrange how they both show up in one screen simultaneously. Only problem is that sometimes the video would lag, and I would have to re-record it multiple times.

Description: Simultaneous Translation, but since we're beginning, we're taking a video with slow audio to be able to translate.
Topic: In this project, we will choose a video in English from a slow speech (such as speeches about managing stress or children tales) , and do a simultaneous translation into Spanish.

Description: In praraphrasing, we take a phrase and change it, but instead of changing its language, we make an "intralinguistic translation", which means that we repeat the same ideas, but using different words.
Topic: In this project, we will be taking 3 minutes of a video, and rephrasing it.

Description: We're doing simultaneous translation on this one. But unlike Projects 2A and 2B, the video chosen will play at regular speed.
Topic: Choose a video in from a scientific or educational Ted-talk

** This was by far the hardest video to make, though not for the translation aspect.
