This is a list of my projects for the class Lit41: Computer Assisted Translation (CAT)
Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) is when a human translator does the translation, but assisted with software translation technologies (tools). This, as oppposed to Machine Translation (MT), which is when the software does the translation all on its own.
For the following projects, we've taken different articles and used different tools (both CAT and MT) to translate them to either English or Spanish (which are the main focus of the class), double-checked the translations, and made some notes along the way.
Each project below has a link to the original article in their original language. For the translations, please click on the project title to go to the project page.
Description: Translate of a recent tech article or one recent science article. Use 2 CAT tools for your translation and compare their results.

Description: Partial or complete translation of a recent medical article (at least 6 paragraphs if it is one article, or 2 times 3 paragraphs if you choose 2 articles).

Description: Select a legal article or international agreement. Present your topic of your treaty selected, and translate 3 paragraphs of the text of the treaty, comparing 2 CAT/MT tool.

Tools: CafeTran Espresso (CAT) and Reverso (MT)

Description: Select a TED talk on YouTube or https://www.ted.com/playlists. Select a video, edit 2 to 3 minutes of the video (indicate in the text the timing for each paragraph). Use your speech-to-text to produce the transcript and cat tools to produce the translation of your transcript.

Description: Present 2 paragraphs of a novel written ORIGINALLY in Spanish / English that are interesting and creative, and that you like. Describe briefly what each novel is about, and then what differences you find between the CAT tools and what would be your best translation of the selected paragraphs.
