Make A BluePrint
Create a blueprint of your library space. I have included this piece by Diana Rendina who made a floorplan using Excel, but feel free to make it on graph paper or Google Drawing or any other platform.
- Create the floorplan
- Create icons for all items in the space
Begin to sort and organize different styles to find things that work for your new vision.
I am a huge fan of involving students and even more excited about seeking these opportunities as legit learning and makerspace opportunities. Why not equip students with tape measures, graph paper, and pencils to go around and create a floorplan.
- Divide the the students into teams
- Team 1 - measures all table surfaces and determines quantity of them all
- Team 2 - measures bookshelves
- Team 3 - measures a wall
- Team 4 - measures check out desk
You get the idea. Once they measure have them report the information to a central location. I huge piece of chart paper, whiteboard, or maybe electronically on a program like Excel.
Once the floorplan has been created, then give students time to arrange the space how they seem fit.
