People who live and work in Saltash were asked for their views about how to improve the connections between Saltash Waterside, the town centre and destinations along the Tamar.
From 22nd March to 7th April, Saltash Town Council consulted the public on the ideas developed so far and asking for the public to get involved.
The focus of the consultation was a drop-in exhibition at Ashtorre Rock and a 'public transport trial' on 30th March.
Project Brief
The aim is to make Saltash a well-connected community which contributes towards economic prosperity, improved social mobility and ‘green’ excellence. This can be achieved through the creation of a vision, strategy and costed action plan for connecting the town, Saltash Waterside and surrounding areas and will put Saltash at the heart of ‘green tourism’ as well as raising the profile of South East Cornwall as a visitor destination.
This project is specifically looking at the feasibility of:
Sustainable, innovative and traditional transport options linking the town centre to Saltash Waterside;
Reintroducing water transport locally and along the River Tamar and beyond;
Circular routes linking existing footpaths, cycle routes, railway and bus routes;
Public realm and infrastructure improvement.
Public consultation & what's next
On 30th March we held a drop-in exhibition at Ashtorre Rock alongside public transport trial' offering free rides on a land train and minibus from the town centre down to Saltash Waterside and back, free ferry rides across to Royal William Yard and Saltash Passage and an opportunity to take a ride in a tuk tuk or try out an electric bike.
Following public consultation from 22nd March - 8 April, the project team is now collating views and comments and will continue with their designs and recommendations which will be presented to the Town Council at the end of April 2024.
