From Mahtomedi High School Eco Club
"We want to create meaningful change through brainstorming, as well as contributing to activities like cleaning watersheds, picking up trash, recycling school plastics, rebuilding local habitats, clearing invasive species, and more! We also spend time on larger, creative projects to either raise awareness or fuel change.
This past year Eco Club has been working on what we call the “Trash Boat”. It is a boat made entirely of plastic bottles donated by students over the course of just a few months. Almost all bottles were purchased in the school. Its purpose is to show just how much waste we create in a small amount of time, encouraging deeper thinking about finding reusable replacements. In order to make it, we partnered with STEM Club, who helped us engineer and build the boat. Science goes hand in hand with Eco Club and we would love to continue producing projects with help from engineering students."
