Object-Based Learning. Chair: Caroline Goeser
A roundtable on Object-Based Learning at the MFAH. How does the focus on the object change the teaching of advanced art history? How can museums and universities collaborate most productively in the training of students in object-based research and writing? We focus on experiences gleaned from the Museum Seminar in Latin American Art, an annual interdisciplinary seminar taught by MFAH scholars for advanced undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Houston. Here curators, learning and interpretation specialists, art historians, and conservators, led by a museum research institute (ICAA), come together to give the student in-depth analyses of objects in the collection from all these perspectives while encouraging similar practices in the student's own research and writing.
