Some Frequently Asked Questions
TRAVEL QUESTIONS (TRAIN, UBER, AND OTHERS)
How to I ride the train? If you have an orange MetroCard, simply swipe it at one of the red-dot card readers on the platform. For more information than you will ever need, see Metro's guide here.
How many rides does my card contain? Your card is good for Thursday-Friday round trips to the museum. If you want to do more, you have several options: A. You can put more money on the card with the guide above (count $1.25 per ride); B. You can pay per ride ($1.25), or C. you can download the Metro app and pay via your phone (only for the hard core).
What happens if I mess up or forget to swipe? 99% of the time, nothing. During most of the pandemic, riding the train was free. Many people think it still is. The worst thing that can happen is they will ask you to step off and pay (we've seen that once in the last two years). That is not the case for buses, BTW--those require payment.
Uber is generally fast and easy around town. Get a couple of people and go anywhere in the central city for little money.
Where can I get information on dining? Right here or click on "Houston" in the top menu (the three bars).
