The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.
This is my certification of completion for completing mandated reporter training.
This training connects directly to standard 9B) knows laws and rules (e.g., mandatory reporting, sexual misconduct, corporal punishment) as a foundation for the fair and just treatment of all students and their families in the classroom and school.
After completing mandated reporter training, I have gained an understanding of my role and responsibility in safeguarding the well-being of my students. Now I know how to recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, or maltreatment and take appropriate action to intervene and report concerns.
This is a reflection I wrote after teaching a kindergarten lesson about painting where I did a whole class demonstration on how to use watercolors appropriately.
This reflection connects to standard 9K) reflects on professional practice and resulting outcomes; engages in self-assessment; and adjusts practices to improve student performance, school goals, and professional growth; because it helped me to think more critically about how my lesson went, and how I could better teach my students.
When writing this reflection, I realized that there are often things going on in the classroom that I am unaware of, especially in a kindergarten classroom where I feel like I spend a lot of time putting out fires. I also was able to see definitive ways I could change or improve my classroom to engage the students, such as putting down some tape to mark out an area where the students should sit at the front of the room for demonstrations. This way it should be easier for the students to sit correctly without me having to ask them all to move every time.
