LMS means learning management systems
e.g. Google Classroom, Canvas
Advantages: - It is free, it has a deep integration with other Google services, reliable cloud service, good integration with other popular e-learning tools such as GeoGebra, Desmos, Edpuzzle and so on.
Example of integrating GeoGebra
Here we insert a GeoGebra application. You can move the bars of a, b and n to change the shape of this Archimedes spiral.
Pedagogy: the art and science of teaching students
Necessity: teachers should learn some pedagogy theories to improve their teaching quality
There are four unified way to look at teaching:
Behaviourism is the theoretical basis for the traditional way.
Construct knowledge through mind, or have interaction with teachers and other students
Education is a discovery process, children should decide what and how they want to learn
Learn through internet, solve problems through communities; a digital age learning theory
cognitive models that enable the implementation of specific instructional and learning strategies
There are five pedagogy models that we learned in this week:
Inquiry-based learning, experiential learning, collaborative learning, variation theory, flipped classroom
We have a deep knowledge in Variation Theory and do a group work on it
The main point of variation theory is that learners need to experience certain patterns of variation and invariance in order to discern critical features of the object of learning
There are four patterns of variation:
Experience something else to compare with it
e.g. Is this an elephant?
Experience and recognising varying appearances of the same thing
e.g. 'four'
One aspect as distinct from other aspects (either variant/ invariant)
e.g. An elephant without trunk
Experiencing several critical aspects simultaneously
e.g. Mixing all kinds of 2D figures together
