In the second semester of MAED project, since I want to improve my teaching skills, including presentation skills and designing lesson plan skill, I choose the MAED 5511. In return, I think I have learnt a lot and achieved beyond the goals from my initial thought.
There are three aspects I would like to talk about in my final reflection: (1) the knowledge I gain; (2) teamwork; (3) achievements (including our website, shiny app, powerpoint).
In week 9&10, we learned a new statistic language R, and learned how to use ChatGPT to generate R code/ shiny app code. At first we are quite dependent on ChatGPT, by giving ChatGPT the specific command, ChatGPT gives us useful codes, we are very happy and do not make much modification on it. But later we find that there are some errors in the code that ChatGPT presents. And it is quite difficult to ask it to modify, ChatGPT does not always get what we mean.
Then, we start to read the R code, by combining humanity and AI, the efficient increase. This tells us that when we use AI, we should be very careful about the correctness of the AI's answer, because AI does not respond to correctness.
Also, it is the first time I met shiny app. Shiny app is quite powerful that when we searching the reference to design our group topic's shiny app, I find many elegant shiny apps.
And learning that when you are going to design an application, the first thing is same as when you are writing teaching plan, which is to write down your goal. Then, you can design the functions in your application, and the layout, etc. It is fun to design an app! 😊
In the second half of the semester, we also make a group presentation. Our topic is to design shiny apps to teach " Normal distribution and central limit theorem". During the preparation, I have to admit one of my mistake is that I ignore to check the logic of our presentation carefully, but more focus on making some interesting ways of presenting, like using Galton broad to lead-in the central limit theorem, but ignoring the principle behind. This mistake make me hard to explain the question Dr. Ku ask after our presentation.
However, when we are designing our shiny book website, we are very carefully now, we have to take responsibility of our word's correctness, since we are going to be teachers in future.
Also, by watching other group's excellent presentations, I learn a lot and it is very helpful for me to develop the related topics' teaching plan in future work.
I think having some of our own achievements is one of the best parts of this class! I really like what we design, including our website, our presentations, the shiny apps and so on. Looking back, these works can be the print that records our improvement. Although we finish this class, the achievements we make can always be here, it is a very precious memory.
