MUSICIAN AUDITION GUIDELINES
Auditions will be held after school on Tuesday, April 7.
Auditions open to Madison High School students only.
Preference will be given to a jazz or blues selection, something from the Great American Songbook, or a modern piece done in a jazz style. Here are some reference sites:
Each act should be a maximum of 5 minutes.
Dessert & Jazz is a family-friendly event. Therefore, all lyrics should be suitable for this environment. The judges have discretion to determine "family-friendly."
Auditions should be performance ready.
Your audition will be judged based on the following criteria:
Jazz/American Songbook/Blues Style
Preparation
Intonation/Tuning
Ensemble
Stage Presence and Overall Effect
Dessert & Jazz is a live event. All vocalists must audition as they will perform, with live, student accompaniment. You may use a current MHS student -OR- a recent MHS grad. Otherwise, no backing tracks, no other non-students, no solo a cappella, no exceptions. You can self-accompany, or secure a pianist, guitarist, ukulelist, ensemble, etc. -- be creative! If you need help securing an accompanist (or are willing to be one for another student), please email us (dessertandjazz@madisonmusicarts.org) by March 21 for assistance.
All acts and all planned performers must audition.
Each student may audition a maximum of once in a group and once individually. Student accompanists are not limited.
Auditions will be held in the MHS auditorium after school on April 7. Students must complete an audition sign-up form and select an audition slot after submitting the form.
Performers must be available for soundcheck starting at 4:00pm (tentative) on April 25 and plan to stay for the entire show.
We will communicate audition results by Friday, April 10 by email. Students need to check their email!
Students will receive service hours for performing.

EMCEE AUDITION GUIDELINES
Auditions will be held after school on Tuesday, April 7.
Auditions open to Madison High School students only.
The emcee will emcee during the Cabaret portion of the event. They will greet the audience and introduce each act using a prepared script.
Your audition will be judged based on the following criteria:
Preparation
Diction and Enunciation
Personability
Stage Presence and Overall Effect
Students should prepare to read this script at the audition. Memorization not required.
Auditions will be held in the MHS auditorium after school on April 7. Students must complete an audition sign-up form and select an audition slot after submitting the form.
