From Soft-spoken to Storytelling

Over the course of my tenth grade literature class, I had to revise and explore my common app essay. I chose to write about my journey through reading and friends. I went from being quiet and introverted to participating in class, making friends, and talking to others. I chose this topic because I wanted to express my love for reading and how I experienced going from feeling alone to being surrounded by people who cared about me.

One of my strengths in this piece of writing was that it was simple for me to recall my feelings and write down what I went through. A weakness I had was that it was difficult for me to explain the beginning of my journey. It was easier for me to explain my conclusion to becoming the storyteller I am today than it was to write about being soft-spoken.

I enjoyed this assignment because I loved writing about something I am very passionate about: reading. Reading helped me to become my truest-self.
