DEATH RACE 3000!!!
Three laps around a figure 8 track. Go less than speed 20 and the bus will blow up, err, I mean your ship will take damage. Rumor has it that Paul Scott was anchored in this game.
2-WAY BLINDSIDE BLACK HOLE MANIA!!!
"2-Way Blindside" refers to 2 teams of 4, where another player's team (selected randomly and secretly using colored SFB chits) is only revealed to you if you get to range 8 of his ship. "Black Hole Mania" refers to the 2 black holes in the center of the map, each of which generates a new black hole on impulses 8 and 24 (new black holes becoming active on impulses 16 and 32). Black hole generation uses 1 die for direction and 2 dice for distance, with map wraparound for black hole generation (only). The danger zone for black holes is 5 hexes (suck objects every few impulses, after movement), and the kill zone is 2 hexes (suck objects every impulse, after movement). Ships sucked into a black hole emit a variable pulsar with strength equal to the explosion strength of the ship.
Our game used 8 randomly assigned tourney ships on a single map. Thanks to Jeremy for letting us use his awesome minis! We laid waste to the battlefield in 50 impulses and 3 hours of great fun!!
On the eastern side of the map, the Lyran and TKR charge each other, only to find out they are on the same team (Red Team)! The TKR launches 50 points of plasma to deter the charging Aux (Blue Team, phaserboat)! The Aux turns off, and scrapes the plasmas off by skirting a black hole.
On the western side of the map, things are getting exciting quickly! The Orion (Red Team, phaserboat), with 2 warp engines glowing, immediately turns towards the Kzinti (Blue Team), who launches a suspicious-looking shuttle. On impulse 8, a new black hole generates smack dab on top of the Kzinti shuttle (black hole active on impulse 16). The Orion skirts the map edge, avoiding the new black hole, which sucks the Kzinti shuttle in to its death (fake scatter pack!).
Meanwhile, the Kzinti and Hydran (fighters tractored in tow), having gotten to range 8 and identified each other as being enemies (Hydran = Red Team), are on a collision course, with the Andromedan (Blue Team) closing fast at speed 28, and the Orion blazing around the about-to-become active black hole at speed 31. On the southwestern corner of the map, the TKE is approaching the fray menacingly...
As the Kzinti and Hydran close, the Kzinti fires 4 phaser-1s and 4 overloaded disruptors at the tractored fighters over several impulses, but because of the heavy EW environment (2 black holes nearby producing 4 ECM), fails to cripple either fighter! Just as they get to range 2, the Andromedan overtakes his Kzinti ally, trying to divert Hydran fire. At range 2 centerline, the Hydran alphas the Andromedan, doing 66 from direct fire and 17 from a standard hellbore (the other missed) through the EW shift, for 2 smallish volleys of internals. In return, the Andromedan cripples the 2 fighters with 2 phaser 2s.
The Hydran then HETs away at speed 26, only to be tractored with a range 2 tractor repulsor beam by the Andromedan (rolled 4 or less to hit with the tractor), who is trying to HET and drag the Hydran into the black hole before displacing to safety! Due to questionable tactics and unpredictable sucks by the black hole, the Andromedan captain (who only days ago, graduated from the Andromedan Academy) realizes the plan is not going to work, announces displacement, alphas the Hydran #4, and promptly fails the displacement roll. At range 1 from the black hole, the Andromedan randomly dislpaces... 1 hex north, placing him 2 hexes from the black hole and narrowly averting a gruesome death!
Meanwhile, the glowing Orion has closed to range 2 of the Kzinti and unloads a phaser strike on the Kzinti #4, but again because of heavy ECM from the black holes, does no internals. With the Aux approaching from the center of the map, the Orion veers south, only to meet the closing TKE (Blue Team), who unloads his full 90 points of plasma (R-torp and 2 F-torps)! The Orion HETs away, back along the western map edge, while the TKE turns right, back towards the middle of the map.
The Andromedan captain (who graduated top of his class), then drops the rear panels for a battery dump at the end of turn 1, yet somehow manages to end the turn within range 1 from the Hydran, showing the down rear panels.

Having chased off the Aux, the TKR and Lyran turn towards the center of the map. The TKR heads towards the Aux/Kzinti/Andromedan/Hydran mess, while the Lyran heads slightly southwest towards the TKE... who launches another 90 points of plasma (the torps fired at the Orion were the fakes)! The Lyran HETs away from the plasmas, back towards the eastern part of the map.
Meanwhile, on turn 2 the Hydran plots speed zero with a massive tractor, planning on taking the Andromedan with him to the grave! The Andromedan, engines racing at speed 27, fights the tractor (Hydran rolled 4 or less to hit with the tractor) for 14 points before succumbing. Taking repeated Hydran phaser fire through the dropped rear panels, the Andromedan in desperation drops the panels to standard, dropping 10 points of power into the batteries and allowing him to fight the tractor to 24 points, but it is still not enough!! The Andromedan cannot stop the Hydran’s inexorable slide into the black hole, entering it and emitting a 20 point variable pulsar, doing 20 more internals to the Andromedan through the down rear panels.
Hydran subspace: “From hell’s heart, I stab at thee... For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee...”
One hex from the black hole, the doomed Andromedan gets a temporary tractor beam from the Kzinti, allowing the Andromedan to delay his death for 6 more impulses and give the Kzinti and Aux time to get outside of range 5, before the Andromedan is sucked into the black hole, emitting another variable pulsar.
Kzinti subspace: “I’ve lowered my #3 shield, beam your crew over!”
Andromedan subspace: “No transporters left!”
On the left: the Aux, Kzinti, and TKE converge on the TKR. The TKR bloodies the Kzinti’s nose with 50 points of plasma, before being overwhelmed by a barrage of seeking weapons...
On the right: the Lyran has HET away from 90 points of real plasma from the TKE, trying to slingshot around a black hole to lose the plasmas... and not... quite... making it... (to be fair, Taras was calling the impulse chart so was probably a little distracted from paying attention to when his ship had a space and the black hole had a suck)
The Orion, being the only surviving member of the Red Team, concedes the victory to the Blue Team.
Lyran subspace:
“Distance from black hole?”
“4000 kilometers.”
“We’re not gonna make it, are we?”
