The Way Back From Which We Came - EP
The way back from which we came is a self titled 4 - 5 track EP consisting of compositions by Aaron Kidd & Peter Bond, the plan for the project is to make something full of emotion with various different genre influences ranging from: Post Hardcore, Shoegaze, Midwest Emo, Slowcore & Indie Folk. Whilst we dont know exactly what genre specifically we’re going for, we do know we want to make something heavy but angelic simultaneously to heavily contrast each-other which is the challenge we want.
The roles that we have set for ourselves are that we’ll both be working on songwriting but we’ll be splitting bass and drums equally.Whilst we are still deciding what the cover art will be, we do know that we want the cover to sound like the EP aesthetically.
We will try generating the ideas for each song, deciding the moods by making the lyrics impactful yet emotional. With the lyrics, we want to try use situations that we have both experienced to add power to the words and really connect with the listener, adding a deeper connection for listeners who have gone through similar circumstances.

The best part of this course was the performances as it was a great way to showcase the skills we have developed: working together in a band and showing off our own original product. I enjoyed Unit 5 Music In Context because I Liked talking about what i’m interested in and educating others on the topics.
I’d say personally I need to improve my confidence when showing my abilities. This hinders my progress because I can play to a suitable level, but when showing others or recording my playing, I seem to think I can’t do it.
At the start of the course I wasn’t as confident in my guitar playing, couldn’t strum four chords together. But now at this stage I can perform at a higher level. For example I can read and play tabs a lot easier, propose ideas with my instrument to further ideas.
Out of all the topics we have covered during the duration of the course I think i would prefer to gain the knowledge to go into business either working in a guitar or record shop, doing repairs on instruments that kind of thing.
To check that our research is actually beneficial to us and so we know we aren’t getting complacent with it, we are going to look at the career paths of artists who we draw inspiration from look at choices and issues they faced and see how they tackled them. We will be doing this to help keep us motivated and proactive. Another form of research we will do is if we want to achieve a certain sound in that specific style, we can use youtube videos or tutorials to see how others create it and then replicate it.
My biggest problem when it comes to making music is I convince myself I don’t achieve or contribute to the workload even though I know it’s not true. In result of this it stops me from working to the level I know I can perform at which will hinder the project entirely. A way I’m going to combat this is I will make a personal plan for me, which highlights all the things we have achieved that week or day, so if I’m ever feeling unmotivated about progression or my own contributions I can look back at our work.
In conclusion, we will be making a 4 - 5 track EP based on our influences, we will be working as a duo to incorporate two different artistic perspectives and making something we are really proud of. We will be documenting our progress based on rehearsal diaries and screenshots, jotting down every step we take onto our personal websites. We’ll be avoiding our problems mentally and physically by clear communication so that we don’t get sidetracked and constantly stay focused. The research aspect of this project will consist of but not be limited to listening to various types of music that's relevant to the sound and style we are going for and educating ourselves on other Logic Pro X techniques once we get into the mixing and mastering process of the record. Another method of accountability, will be to refer to the exemplification matrix. We need to prepare and book studio time in order to get the outcome we desire alongside keeping a good professional attitude in order to create our music, I believe we are constantly improving after each session we have, it’s just about keeping the momentum going in the future.
