TPE 5 focuses on using assessments to understand student progress, provide feedback, and guide instruction.
Assessment is not just grading, it's a tool for understanding learning. Teachers use assessment data to adjust instruction and support students effectively.
This assessment helped me learn how to analyze student performance and identify specific areas of need. After administering the phonics screener, I used the results to plan targeted interventions in prefixes/suffixes and multisyllabic word decoding. I saw firsthand how assessment drives instruction and how students can grow when instruction meets their needs. This assignment also taught me the importance of observing student behavior, pacing, and confidence during assessments. I will carry these skills into student teaching as I continue to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Completing my philosophy of assessment assignment helped me better understand the purpose of using different types of assessments to support student learning. I learned how formative and summative assessments, such as observations, exit tickets, and formal assessments, can be used to monitor progress and guide instruction. This assignment helped me see the importance of using assessment data to make instructional decisions and support all students. As a future teacher, I will continue to use a variety of assessments to track student growth and adjust my teaching to meet their needs.
