TPE 3 focuses on organizing academic content, selecting standards-based learning goals, and designing instruction that makes subject matter meaningful and accessible.
A teacher must not only know the content but present it in a way that students can understand and apply. This TPE ensures instruction is purposeful, clear, and aligned with learning goals.
This lesson plan required me to align standards, learning targets, assessments, and instructional strategies in a cohesive way. I learned how to break down complex concepts into manageable steps and use scaffolds to support all learners. Writing this lesson also reminded me to think through pacing, materials, and student engagement strategies. This assignment helped me feel more confident in my ability to organize instruction that leads students toward mastery.
Completing my classroom observation assignment helped me better understand how subject matter is taught and adapted across different grade levels. By observing both a 1st grade and a 5th grade classroom, I was able to see how teachers organize content, adjust instruction, and present material in ways that are developmentally appropriate for their students. This experience showed me the importance of clearly modeling concepts and breaking down content so all students can understand. As a future teacher, I will use these observations to help guide how I plan and deliver instruction in a way that supports student learning and builds understanding.
