Simon Carroll Open Exhibition
(14th Jan to 31st May 25)
A mixed media submission to the Simon Carroll Exhibition titled: The Ruffe Fish
The Courtyard Theatre, Hereford organised and hosted a collection of vessels from the Hereford-born ceramicist Simon Carroll. These vessels are on loan from the @vamuseum collection. Work inspired by Simon Carroll has been displayed alongside them.
The handcrafted sculpture of a Ruffe Fish being hooked out of the water was inspired by the ceramicist Simon Carroll’s love for humour, fish and the Elizabethan Ruffe. The sculpture was created from sustainable materials consisting of: wheel-thrown porcelain sample vessels (sandblasted to reveal unique textures then coloured with homemade glazes/oxides), off-cuts of hardwood (carved, burnt and waxed) and scrap brass/steel.
The sculpture invites viewers to appreciate the unique character of the fish and historical connection, while enjoying a light-hearted moment.
