Hereford Cathedral Exhibition
Re-Interpret (27th Jan to 27th Feb 24)
A mixed media submission to the Re-Interpret Exhibition titled: Unity
After sketching onsite at both Hereford Cathedral and Hereford Gate (V&A, London), together with a fabulous guided tour by the Hereford Cathedral staff, the final piece was inspired by the: Unity of the Aesthetics in the Lord's House (over the centuries), Unity of Faith and the diocese.
Each component of the submission, was intentionally handcrafted to pay homage to the Master Craftsmen.
The mixed media chalice represents the Holy Communion and, therefore, the Unity of Faith. The chalice comprises a wheel-thrown porcelain vessel (gilded in 23-carat gold leaf), which was fused with red cathedral glass, as used by the master craftsman @thomas_dennyart for the handcrafted Audley Chapel stained glass windows and a brass disc to represent the host. Motifs originating from freehand sketches of the wooden/stone carvings. were placed on the outside of the chalice.
The two wheel-thrown porcelain candlesticks were taken from the Corona, in which 14 candles represent the diocese. Water-etched corona patterns were reflected in all three pieces.
