LYRICS:
You lose yourself and lose your way
You wont find yourself if there’s making there to make
Bruising breaking over time
Nothing else will change my time
I don’t regret the journey or the time
I don’t wanna be one of your mistakes,
But I don’t wanna be the one to try the breaks
Teach me what you want, Ill go where I wanna go
I’ll listen if you want, but time is what it takes to grow
Bruising breaking over time
Nothing else will change my time
I don’t regret the journey or the time
I don’t wanna be one of your mistakes,
But I don’t wanna be the one to try the breaks
Mistakes:
This is a favourite of mine on this album. I love the structure of the vocal part in the verses that gets answered by the guitar part - its like putting puzzle pieces together and its a format I naturally go back to - sing then riff then sing then riff. I love the energy that it creates in driving the verses towards the chorus. In the pre chorus I think this was one of the first times where everything lined up for me - the words, the syllables, the rhythm behind them, the build up - its nothing complex or fancy, but I really feel that the building blocks of this track came together well. I'm definitely a fan of song structure and arrangement - Bruce Springsteen's 'Save My Love' has one of the most perfect structural arrangements I've ever heard - although its very different to this track in feel, his writing is a huge influence on my music and you can hear the fruits of my labours in terms of structure here - its planned with no deliberate left turns to surprise the audience (unlike the first Penguinos album 'When This is Over') and when this song came out of the oven as it were, the arrangement felt right.
