LYRICS:
Well now I see it all, and now I’ll see you again
Before we fall too far, go past the river bend
Well now I’ve got this life, and shoes on my feet
And I can call you home, to make this home with me
Now I see you coming around, now I see you coming around
Now I see you coming around, now I see you coming around
We’ll place it stone by stone, and cut the trees for beams
If we want it all, we’ve gotta build it here
You take up your two hands, and take a journeys first step
This journey will be far, and this I understand
Now I see you coming around, now I see you coming around
Now I see you coming around, now I see you coming around
Home:
One of my favourites on this album, this song started with the riff and everything else was built around it. The central theme is building a home somewhere, with some imagery of physically building - stones and beams and river bends.
The chorus melody arrived completed with the guitar layers and backing vocals all together and its a moment where I think the vocals really step out and are more exposed. The guitar solo took preparation, not for the melody itself but for the irregular time signatures behind it -that all had to be figured out and recorded first with all of the parts - then the solo could run over the barlines and phrasing breaks. It was a lot of fun to record it when the moment finally came. I think its one of hte stronger songs on the album and for that reason it had to be at the end - I dont like albums that are too front loaded with the strongest songs then they drift off and fade out - so I always try to balance an album with strong songs at either end - even though there days people stream music so the order is less important, its still nice to think of the body of work being listened to in one complete sitting.
