This study will use a mixed-methods approach combining an online survey, field observations, and informal stakeholder engagement. The online survey will gather information from residents, dog owners, dog walkers, and dog caregivers in Indian River County regarding dog waste disposal practices, stormwater awareness, perceived impacts on water quality, barriers, and exposure to educational messages. Field observations will be conducted at selected dog-walking areas to assess site conditions, including trash bins, bag stations, signage, cleanliness, and accessibility. Participants will be recruited through QR codes, online links, community outreach, and direct engagement where possible. Participation will be voluntary. Survey responses and observation notes will be analyzed to identify patterns in behavior, social norms, practical constraints, and education gaps. The findings will support recommendations to improve stormwater education and reduce nonpoint source pollution affecting local waterways, including the Indian River Lagoon.
