Quirks & Habits
Cusses like, well, a sailor. Crude sense of humor.
Desensitized to violence. Doesn't crave it, but will utilize it.
Doesn't flinch at loud noises, like canon fire.
Won't say sorry - thinks of it as a show of weakness. Finds other ways to "apologize" when feeling guilty.
Hides wounds, doesn't want anything others can capitalize on in the open. Emotional hurt usually hidden behind anger and insults.
Likes to roughouse, always up for a fight and easy to instigate. Feeling she's being tested or insulted usually results in a massive blowback of bristling and hostility - trying to assert her place in a "pecking order" because that's how she was used to doing it on pirate ships.
Good with kids but uncomfortable around them due to her history and what they remind her of.
History in the criminal underbelly make her very good at catching them. Knows how they think, how to read them -- which ones are in it for kicks and which ones are desperate or might be reasoned with, etc.
Initially her body as a bargaining chip & emotionally manipulative, promiscuous. Then realizes how badly she's been abused/used when she didn't have to be and doesn't want ANYONE to touch her for a while. Afterwards, is again willing to employ wiles to get things she wants, but comes from a place of personal empowerment rather than feeling her body has no value, and she is much pickier about bedfellows in general.
Hates mushrooms. Gooey icky slimy bad texture. Will not eat. Will spit them out.
Terrified of ghosts, voidsent, witches, curses, dogs, & goats.
Lyrha is an outgoing, sharp-eyed apprentice of Red Magic, who's history in Eorzea's criminal underbelly honed her instincts to a fine point, and now gives her valuable insight when called upon to help those in need.
Generally, she is an inquisitive person who knows how to bring energy into a room. But while her manners have improved somewhat in past years, she still swears like a sailor and her poor upbringing shows more often than she would like.
Lyrha is learning how to be genuine with others. It's not always instinctive for her to care about strangers, but her adherence to the principles of Red Mages give her a framework to build off of. She wants to be good, she hopes she has it in her.
She is extremely competitive, and can be quite aggressive - traits that drive her to excel at whatever she sets her mind to, especially the martial aspects of Red Magic. Being prone to an astral/dark state, she took quickly to the Red art of accelerating spells. Her offensive magicks both black and white are quite potent, but she struggles with more passive-state spells like healing.
Ultimately, Lyrha wants to do the noble thing. She does not always possess the wisdom to discern this, however, and has just enough slyness to get herself into trouble in spite, or because of, her good intentions.
Lyrha is slow to trust. She struggles to ask for help, even when it's obvious she needs it. Guilt over her past sins is a powerful motivator, and she will take on great personal risk in the name of helping those in need.
It should be noted that Lyrha is extremely superstitious, is quite fearful of voidsent, and though born left handed was forced to learn to use her right for most things to appease the equally superstitious pirates who raised her.
She speaks several languages, including Common and Sign. She eventually learns Huntspeak from Nahte'to, and though not entirely fluent, she can at least mostly understand her native tribal tongue, an analogue to Irish Gaelic.
