STROKE ACTIVATIONS

Stroke need to know: 

✦ For hyperacute stroke (HAS) transfers, please place pre-arrival ED HAS stroke order set when accepting the transfer. 

(Affects stroke measures and important for credentialing as LLUMC Stroke Center by Joint Commission.) If Stroke Alert in quick look, assess if hyperacute activation needed, Tier 1 (0-6 hrs) vs Tier 2 (>6-24 hrs). Order set: ED HAS.

✦For SAH/ICH, we do not need to place order sets prior to arrival, if you want to place for workflow, you may but uncheck the consult order for neurosurgery and NMCCS since consults completion times are being monitored. Please make sure to activate in operating system as well, must be nontraumatic.                                Order set: ED SAH or ED ICH.

✦Use order sets which have shown to decrease LOS and quicker dispo to NMCCS or neurology service. 

✦If someone has a CVA with hemorrhagic conversion or initially activated as stroke and then found to be a head bleed, activate BOTH and place BOTH order sets. Don't worry about duplicate orders.
