Asian Tiger Stories

These stories come from China, Tibet, Korea, and Myanmar. It will take less than an hour to read all of the stories, and when you find one you really like, try reading it out loud!

The Tiger of Chao-Cheng. This legend from China is about a tiger who has a strong sense of justice.

The Man who Loved Money. In this Chinese folktale, the attack of a ferocious tiger shows just how miserly a miser can be.

The Tiger and the Man. In this story from Tibet, a young tiger who has never encountered a human being goes hunting for humans.

The Tiger and the Frog. This story, which also comes from Tibet, shows how a tiny frog is able to triumph over a tiger.

The Unmannerly Tiger. In this folktale from Korea, it is once again a frog (well, a toad) who outwits the tiger, but using a quite different trick than the frog in the Tibetan story.

The Jackals and the Tiger. In this Tibetan story, the tiger is outwitted by a family of jackals who have taken over his den.

The Dogs and the Tiger. In this Burmese story, it is a pair of dogs who have taken over the tiger's den.
