This inaugural CERN conference is a space for celebrating what community economies researchers and practitioners have accomplished—and contemplating what we are yet to do. The current pandemic is exposing what the hard work of being in common entails, a task that is at the core of community economies thinking and practice. As our steadily growing research network demonstrates, those drawing on the community economies approach continue to explore how to negotiate and enact an economic ethics that is for life. In this presentation I draw attention to some of the creative ways that community economies researchers and practitioners are responding to the on-going challenge of “imagining and enacting” other possible worlds, and I reflect on how we are thinking with policy makers, other scholars and practitioners, and the more than human.
