This session and session number 15 are thought of as related to each other, and we encourage participants to sign up in both of them. If participants could not do this, however, they are welcome to participate in one or the other. We are an international, multi-disciplinary and pluri-linguistic group who has been exploring some of the core concepts of diverse and community economies, experimenting with arts-based methodologies for exploring our experiences and unsettling fixed understandings. Our aim for this session is to share our current conceptualization of our Liviana-Arts Based Approach; to try it out with others through the creation of a living definition of ‘community’. In doing so, we will further understanding of the relationships between artistic and economic practices, cultural perspectives, and socio-linguistic diversity
Participants will be asked to prepare ahead of time by writing a short 200-500 word piece on how they define community and/or an experience of ‘community’ in a diverse or community economy context. These will be shared with all participants before the workshop. Participants will be invited to submit links to any source materials that informed their writing, which will be shared in a collective bibliography after the session. The first session itself will involve a facilitated discussion leading into a collaborative creative activity. The second session will involve the assemblage of, and reflections on, a multi-modal text co-created by the participant group integrating visuals, but also maybe oral and written text, sounds, or other materializations.
We welcome submissions in Spanish, English, Italian, Hebrew, Catalan and Portuguese. The session will be mostly held in English, just because it is the common language across the organizers, but we aim to integrate other languages that are understood by some of the organizers, precisely as part of our developing methodological framework.
