In this session there will be a screening of the short film made to introduce the main themes and findings of my 2020 book 'Birthing Work: the collective labour of childbirth'. Drawing on ethnographic interviews with mothers, midwives and obstetricians, the book explores the collective endeavours that shape birth experiences. It focuses on who does the work of childbirth, expanding the boundaries for who (and what) is responsible for this collective labour and highlighting the interdependencies that characterise it.
Following the screening there will be a panel discussion with Stephen Healy and Kelly Dombroski about the implications of this work for thinking around communing, interdependence and care + live Q&A.
