Before we head out to our Spring Break, I just wanted to congratulate all the Symphonic and Honor Band students that participated in the Solo & Ensemble contest at the end of February. We had 41 one events receive a rating of a one at the contest. I am so proud of all the hard work that the students put into the music. This will in the long run help improve our programs ability to be more musical.
The Honor band will be participating in the Montgomery District Pre-UIL Contest. This contest is so that we can assess how well we are playing and what we need to work on to improve ourselves for the UIL contest in late April. Here is what you need to know.
When: Tuesday, March 19th
Where: Montgomery High School- I gave the wrong information to Mr. Whitehead so the news letter says will play at Lake Creek but in reality, it will be at MHS auditorium.
Time:
We will be meeting in the band hall in the morning around 8 am and will be getting ready before we leave. We should be back before the end of the day. I am planning on ordering some pizza for the kids to eat after we perform.
I could use about 4 parent chaperones to ride along with the band. If you are interested in helping out, please shoot me an email.
The students will be wearing blue jeans and their band polo shirts for the performance. All parents are welcome to come watch the performance. If you have any questions please let me know.

The students are excited about the Solo & Ensemble competition and both bands have been working hard both in class and after school to prepare for this competition. Here is information for that day.
Where: Montgomery Junior High School
When: February 23, 2004
Time: We will start at 4 pm.
I have attached a schedule. Each student has a specific time they will perform. Students need to be in the cafeteria at least ten minutes before they perform. This way they can properly warm up and be ready to go. I will be in the cafeteria and students will need to check in with me before performing.
Students need to dress semi-formal. We want to dress to impress. Please check the schedule and let me know if there is any concerns with the times.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I want to accommodate as many students as possible.
February 7, 2024
The Honor band and Symphonic band are currently preparing for their solo competition. The competition will on February 23, 2004. I know that this is the same day as the dance, but we have worked out a schedule that will work for everyone. Montgomery Junior High School will be hosting the competition. We have hired enough judges so that we can get our student in and out in about one hour. We are going to start the competition at 3:30 pm. So, any student that can get there early enough will be scheduled first. Everyone else will get scheduled before 4:30 pm. Anyone else who may need a later time will need to let me know so that I can schedule the time for you. We are doing this so that they still have time to go to the dance if they so desire to attend. Students that cannot attend due to previous commitments will still have to play their solo for me for a grade.
Students will need to be dressed in a semi-formal fashion for their performance. Once they are done performing, they may leave. All students will need to bring their own instrument and music. I cannot transport students to the competition because buses will still be running their routes. So, all students need to be dropped off and picked up from Montgomery Junior High. Parents are allowed to be in the room with their child and watch them perform. That is if the student is comfortable with you being in the room.
I will be sending out a full schedule as soon as it is done. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hello, I hope that everyone is keeping warm in this weather. I am sending out this email for all my percussion parents. I have been having trouble with the percussion taking care of our drumsticks and mallets. I keep finding the mallets broken from the students abusing them or playing games with them when I am not looking. All percussion players need to have a stick bag with the following items in them.
Mike Balter BDS1 stick bag/mallets
Vic First SD1 drumsticks
I have talked to the percussionist, and they are aware that they are in need of these items. I have extra sticks and mallets and they are usually kept for performances and competitions but lately the percussion have been using them because they do not have or bring their own bags. If you can please help with this, I would greatly appreciate it. If you have any questions, please let me know.

I am glad to see the cold weather moving into our part of the state. We have a performance next week on Tuesday November 7th; we will be playing at the 8th grade football game. Here is a timeline of things to occur on this day. I will not be able to transport students to the stadium so they will need to meet at the stadium. Students need to wear blue jeans and their band polo shirt.
I could use about 4 parent volunteers to help pass out food to the students. Also, I need a parent with a truck to help me move equipment from the band hall to the stadium. If you can help shoot me an email as soon as possible.
4:30 - Students to meet at the MIS stadium on the home side on the side close to the field house.
We will be eating pizza and drinks and chips.
5:00 - We will move into the stadium and sit in the stands
I will be releasing all students after halftime of the last game. This should be around 6:30 pm. This is an estimated time. All students must get picked up at the stadium.

I hope that everyone is having a great school year. The weather is great and so are the kids. I have updated the calendar to reflect the most up to date events. If you have any concerns, please let me know. The Symphonic and Honor bands did an amazing job at the pep rally last week. I am very proud of the work that both bands are doing. The beginners are on pace and bring a lot of energy and fun to the program.
This week we have the Halloween Bash on Friday. I do need some extra help on Friday. I could use more pairs of eyes while the kids are running around having fun. The party will start at 3 pm and end at 5 pm. I will be ordering pizza for the band. Every section will be assigned a goodie to bring, for example chips or cookies. We will have a costume contest and some volleyball, basketball, and of course dodge ball. Come on out and have some fun with us on Friday.
I am going to start to communicate with everyone through and app called BAND. Here is a link that will take you to the website to sign up. https://band.us/n/a9a195h6s8Q8E. I have a calendar of events on here and I can send out information to everyone as I get it. I can post pictures of events and reminders to students and parents. I will have two groups in this app. One will be for students and the other for parents. I think this will be a great tool for our program.
