It is important to note that due to the algorithms that social media uses, each researcher will see different posts based on their previous activity, current location, followers and following, previous Google searches, email inbox content, etc. The data I collected may thus be skewed to a certain extent, and as such, a more robust data collection would be necessary, perhaps in a future continuation of this project.
Further, other things besides geography and politics may influence people’s adoption of English, anglicisms, and other “internationalisms.” Among these could be age, gender, socioeconomic status, or education. Unfortunately, conducting research on each of these variables is beyond the scope of this project, and it may also be quite challenging to collect this information from people’s social media profiles alone.
