OPUS
What is Opus?
Opus is an honor choir for 5th-9th grade kids from all across Iowa that meets to rehearse and perform for just one day on November 19th in Ames!
How do I try-out?
If you want to try-out, sign up right away using THIS FORM! You will work with Mrs. Droe and Mr. Grove (student teacher) at school, and on your own at home, to learn the audition materials: the major scale, “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” and a song excerpt. Practice times will be before or after school. When you are ready, she will record your voice and submit it online. A selection committee will listen to all the recordings and let Mrs. Droe know if any Lincoln students are chosen to participate!
What happens if I get in?
If you are chosen to participate in Opus, jump for joy and feel proud! Then, you will get busy working with Mrs. Droe and Mr. Grove to prepare all the concert music. On November 19th, you will ride a bus to Ames with the other selected singers from Cedar Falls, sing and have fun all day, and perform in the late afternoon! Your families can buy tickets to see the concert and you can ride home with your parent or guardian.
Don’t be confused!
Opus is not the same as the Lincoln 5th & 6th Grade Chorus! You will get more information about the Lincoln Chorus soon, and those rehearsals will begin in late September.
Is it hard to get into Opus?
Yes. More than 1,000 kids across the state will audition, and only 180 will be chosen. The music is challenging and requires a lot of time and effort to master. You will surely grow musically from this opportunity - even if you aren’t selected – and you can always try again next year! Cedar Falls submits student audition recordings for kids in grades 5-9!
