2025 5th Grade Concert is Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lincoln gym.
5th Grade Skills:
5th graders are working continue reviewing and polishing learned musical elements and will add dotted quarter note combinations and the melodic element called ti. Ti will complete the major scale (Yay!). The students will continue to practice music from the the treble clef by using their recorders and xylophones.
This is the year some students are able to play in the school band. Mrs. Byersdorfer is our amazing band director and will send information home with students providing them with this wonderful opportunity.
The students also have the opportunity to join our school chorus this year. Rehearsals are every ? during recess. There is no audition to be in this ensemble and parents do not have to sign any form for participation. Students simply join me in the music room after eating lunch to prepare music for the concert and have fun singing together. Students will be dismissed to Chorus after they eat lunch so they won't have any problems remembering which day to attend rehearsal.
Encourage your child to join the Lincoln Chorus. Especially encourage the boys. I think our society gives boys the subliminal message that only girls can sing. Of course that's not true. Encourage them...even expect it of them. I'd really like to get more boys singing in our choir. I sometimes get the response that they don't want to miss their recess, but girls don't want to miss it either. They have to miss a recess once a six day cycle but it's a fun and worthwhile! Besides, the choir sings at their grade level concert so they might as well sing with the Lincoln Chorus! That way they'll stay busier at the concert.
An auditioned Honor Choir called Opus is available to all 5/6 Choir Members. Please see the opus tab under the pancakes at the upper left hand side of this page to learn more.
