2026 2nd Grade Concert is January 21 at 6:30 PM in the Lincoln gym
2nd Grade Skills
By the end of the year, 2nd graders will be rhythmically proficient at using the half note, half rest, whole note, whole rest, syncopation (eighth, quarter, eighth) and melodically proficient using the pentatonic (do, re, mi, sol, la) scale.
They will be kept busy reading and writing these elements but will also practice them through ear training, creating (composition) and improvising while singing, listening, and playing barred instruments plus they will continue learning the modern band set of instruments (guitar, keyboard, drum set, ukulele, bass). Most importantly, students will enjoy themselves as they learn even more about the wonderful world of music!
They will also spend a lot of time learning about the famous Prokofiev piece of music called Peter and the Wolf.

Here are some dice to roll using mostly notes we practice in 2nd grade (minus 8th notes). Click to roll and write down the notes on your dice. Continue until you have a rhythm you like to start composing a melody with or simply practice your rhythm by tapping on different objects. Have fun!
