The 2020-21 school year definitely wasn't what I expected--as a completely online year, I had a lot to learn about succeeding in a virtual environment. Regardless, I managed to make the most of this year of online school. The pictures above and to the left are from a trip to the Southwest to see petrogylphs in the Franklin Mountians.

In the spring and summer of 2021, I assisted Professor Ben Marwick in his research on the Australian archeological site Madjebebe. Our research aimed to explore the composition of sediment thin sections from Madjebebe and compare them to the composition of thin sections of nearby termite mounds. Access a brief summary of our research here. Above, you can see my lab set up.
After two years of hard work, The Historical Review (the undergraduate history journal for which I serve as the managing editor), published our very first issue, sharing the work of six UW undergraduates in topics ranging from pre-Christian traditional ecological knowledge to the American hippie movement, and many more. You can read the journal here.Â
For my ENVIR 250 class, I worked with three classmates to study the water quality in Ravenna stream as measured by macroinvertebrate populations. We had a blast collecting data in the stream on two sunny afternoons, and wrote a full-length scientific paper you can read here.
This year, I served as an intern for Clara Coyote, the ASUW Director of University Affairs. As a part of this internship, I created a COVID-19 Masterlist of resources on the college, city, county, state, and federal level in areas such as food insecurity, housing insecurity, medical need, and many more. You can access the masterlist, which is one of my experiential learning projects, here.
I worked as a volunteer on the #FurFreeWA campaign, which works in support of two bills proposed in the WA state legislature to ban the sale and production of fur items. As a part of this campaign, I ran their Instagram account, created Facebook assets, and created a petition in support of the bills with over 140,000 signatures! Read and sign the petition here. Above, you can see me protesting.
This year, I served as an intern for the ASUW Queer Student Commission, where I assisted on everything from planning a drag show to expanding the UW's diversity credit requirement. At the end of my term, I was hired to direct the commission for the 2021-2022 school year! Above, you can see the flyer for our drag show.
This year, I continued my mentorship of LGBTQ+ youth through my participation in the SHINE Leadership Program and as a new board member. I've so enjoyed getting to learn from and help all of the kids and interns in my programs grow, and worked on projects in my board appointment for my experiential learning project. I was featured in an issue of Seattle Pride magazine for my work, which you can read here (pages 38-43).
This year, I joined Phi Alpha Delta, the UW pre-law fraternity. It's something I wanted to do all of last year, but I didn't have the time for it. I think that my involvement in the fraternity has certainly been one of the highlights of my online year. It's been great to meet such amazing people and to learn a lot about the field of law and the UW. Through events such as movie nights, LSAT prep sessions, and talks from Seattle lawyers, I've been able to connect with the fraternity, build my network, and learn a lot. The above image is the PAD initiation flyer.
