Welcome to my Honors Portfolio!

When my advisor asked me mid-way through my freshman year what my college plans were, I replied that I felt like I want to major in "everything." In my first two quarters at the UW, I had taken classes in neurobiology, chemistry, argumentative writing, environmental sciences, and history. And I felt inspired, fascinated, and delightfully confused by them all. In my neurobiology classes, I was drawn to insights into the human brain. In my environmental studies classes, I was enamored by the different flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest. I was truly disheartened by the idea of choosing a speciality, and I found myself wanting to explore different disciplines and just learn a little bit about everything for the next four years. When a professor encouraged me to apply for the honors program, describing its interdisciplinary nature as "a program for jacks-of-all-trades," I felt like I had found my place at the UW.

And, four years later, I can definitely say that I have found my place, my people, and my passions within the interdisciplinary honors program. I feel grateful to be able to describe my college experience as nothing less than delightfully eclectic--I've been elected student body Vice President, worked in the geoarcheology laboratory, co-founded the UW's only undergraduate history journal, and interned in the national Congress. Each of these experiences has lit up my life in different ways, and I've gained skills in areas from coding to literature analysis to policy. The honors program was a vital part of my UW experience in large part because it helped me find the connections and tie together the threads between my coursework, my extracurriculars, and, most importantly, my future goals.

As I stand on the precipice of graduation and prepare to enter into the "real world," I feel as though I've found the vital connections between my college experience and my future career, and between the different interests I've studied. As I continue to work toward the next step in my journey, law school, I realize how vital it is to explore these connections thoroughly in the pursuit of my career. This portfolio outlines the beginning of this journey, and serves as a reflection on the last four years of my college career.
