The return to a (mostly!) in-person school year this year was welcome! It was such a joy to be back on campus surrounded by community. This year, I was honored to be elected as the student body Vice President and to intern in Washington, D.C. over the summer for Congresswoman Kim Schrier. I was also awarded the Husky 100 Award for my work at the UW. The picture to the right is a selfie of some friends and I sitting on the steps of the Capitol.
After a long and intense election process, I was elected as the ASUW Vice President. It was honor and so exciting to be elected to serve as the Chief Internal and Operating Officer for a 1.4 million dollar organization with 75+ employees and dozens of volunteers.
The summer after my Junior year, I interned for Congresswoman Kim Schrier in Washington, D.C. It was so exciting to see the democratic process in action and to watch bills get passed. After the internship, I wrote this article for the UW College of Arts & Sciences.
This year, I served as the Queer Student Commission Director for the Associated Students of the University of Washington. With my stellar team of interns and in collaboration with other entities at the ASUW, we advocated for fair treatment of LGBTQ+ students, put on fun and informative events, and much more.
This was one of my favorite courses I've ever taken at the UW, and it redefined the way that I think my relationship to the environment, the Anthropocene, and death. As a part of the course, I made several entries on the class blog which you can find here.
In August of 2021, I was appointed to serve as a lead for the Youth and Young Adult Continuum of Care Subcommittee (affectionately dubbed the "yak") along with WA Rep. Lauren Davis, Rep. Caroline Eslick, and Michelle Karnath. The subcommittee provides recommendations to the broader Children and Youth Behavioral Health Committee, and eventually, to the WA legislature. Find out more information about the group here.
This spring, I was elected to the national and state boards of the College Democrats of Washington as the Political Affairs Director for the 2023-34 school year. It was so exciting to work with the state democratic party!
I was inducted into the Mortar Board Society at the UW, the oldest continuing honors society on the UW campus. Its values of feminism, leadership, and service are very important to me as I move through my academic career.
This year, I was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States. I'm honored to have been chosen and excited to join such an amazing network.
This year, I was nominated for the UW as a 2021 Truman Scholar nominee and 2021 Udall Scholar nominee. The Truman Scholarship supports those pursuing careers in public service, and the Udall Scholarship supports students committed to careers in environmental stewardship.
