Although I only had a couple of months of in-person school before the UW moved online for COVID-19, I was able to connect with classmates and education both before and during the new virtual environment. This year, I had not yet been accepted into the Honors program. The image to the left is of 16 year-old me, the same day I found out I was accepted to the UW Academy Program and the UW as a whole.
My first quarter at the UW, I almost failed my very first college test, a midterm in an intro chemistry course. I had so much to learn about how to study for and approach a college class. However, with endless hours at the tutoring center and the chemistry study center, I was able to pass the class with an above-average GPA. Although my college career got off to a rocky start, I've learned so much since then! Above, you can see some of my notes.
My third quarter at the UW, I declared my two majors: environmental studies and political science. Although I was initially wary of doing a double major, I've since learned how to balance the increased course load and have found ways to connect my coursework with my out-of-classroom learning
My very first Honors class (taken before I was even accepted into the program!) was HONORS 391C: Cultural Landscapes of Seattle and the Salish Sea Region, taught by one of my favorite professors, Tim Billo. This class discussed the history of the natural and cultural landscapes of Seattle, and its unique blend of science and the humanities was what made me apply for the Honors program. The above image is taken from a project I did on Ronald Bog.Â
In ENVIR 280, I spent a significant portion of my time outdoors studying the natural landscape of Carkeek park. My findings were compiled in a blog, which you can find and read here.
This internship was my very first involvement with the ASUW, and I so enjoyed being a part of such an excellent group of student leaders. My experience in this internship inspired me to continue my involvement throughout my college experience, and I now serve as the ASUW Vice President.
In the Spring of 2020, I received acceptance into the Honors program to start in my second year! I was so excited to begin my Honors journey, and start making the kind of interdisciplinary connections that the Honors program fosters.
