What you'll need:
A USB drive with at least 8GB of storage
An internet connection
A PC running Windows 7 or later
Download the ISO of your desired Linux distribution. I will use Linux Mint Cinnamon as it's easy to use.
Linux Mint: https://linuxmint.com/download.php
Save the file to downloads.
Download a tool called Rufus from here: http://rufus.ie/en/ (The portable version is fine for us.)
Once both files are downloaded, open Rufus.
Select the USB Device you would like to flash.
NOTE: Everything on this USB device will be deleted. Make sure there is no important data on it.
Select the ISO image file you just downloaded:
If possible, select the GPT partition scheme.
Leave everything else at default.
Then, click "START".
If prompted, select "ISO image mode" and click ok.
Confirm the warning that all data on the USB drive will be deleted.
Wait for the operation to finish. Once completed, you can now start your PC from the Linux USB!
Follow this guide to start your PC from USB.
