This class will focus on the elements of art and the artists who create art. Students will learn about the various periods and styles of art in the context of the elements of art. After students learn about specific aspects of art, they will create art that relates to the information covered. For example, after learning about color and artists who are known for their use of color, students will create art that reflects color and the style of an artist known for his/her use of color.
This is not a class in which students have to be good at art, nor is it a class where the focus will be on becoming a better artist. This is a class where students will learn about art and will get to experiment with all kinds of media and styles. Students will create with pencils, colored pencils, acrylic paints, watercolors, pastels, clay, and more.
Homework will be moderate in this class, and will include book work, studying for periodic quizzes, and writing about or creating art. Students will also have activities that allow them to look at pieces of art in more detail.
This class counts as a Fine Arts credit.
