I knew as soon as we started with the project that I wanted to work on the Voxel Art. I've loved pixel art for a long time, so this also seemed fun!
To the left and right of this textbox you can see my first two little experiments I made in MagicaVoxel.
For the actual project, I got to make the boats, the island and some of the buildings! + the Logo which I decided to make in Voxel Art as well!
voxel art - galleon
boat mockup in aseprite - galleon and caravel
voxel art - caravel
Then we realized we fully misunderstood the scale we were supposed to work in so I got to remake the boats

I was also in charge of designing the logo! For this I looked at a bunch of logos/titles from different games, to see how they did it & what makes an interesting logo.
I decided to go for a Voxel Art style, to tie it into the rest of the game. The background with the planks was inspired by the ships in our game, to give it that boatsy feel.
Finished Logo Render
Warehouse block-out
Plain warehouse
Fish warehouse
Fish warehouse - alt colors
Fish warehouse - colors we settled on
Fish warehouse - expanding
Fish warehouse - finished with decor
Honestly, I think I did something quite funny (and smart) to work on the island.
We only had to make a fake screenshot, so it didn't have to be optimized at all, and we just needed a small part of it.
So I found an online height map of.. the world. I found something that looked slightly interesting, which was a random Italian coast, and used that as a base. Imported that into MagicaVoxel, and then added colors.
