Planet Playtest was made for Project Context I at HKU, where we had to make a game for a client. For this project, the client was HKU Games director Viktor Wijnen.
The assignment was to make a game which could be played at the HKU Open Day by potential new students. The game was supposed to be inspiring and informing for them.
After some research we noticed that one of the most-asked questions at previous open days always has been 'What exactly does a Game Designer do?'. People usually can tell the roles of artists and developers, but the 'design' part is a bit vague for people.
So we made a sort of co-op game where you design a character controller. One person changes some values, and then the other person can playtest how the playstyle changes.
