Creating Instructional Media - Week 4
Part 1: Video Creation
For my first part of this assignment, I'd like to submit my Music Theory playlist for this one, as it's some of my productions that are near and dear to my heart. This was the first time I had made a series in this style (top-down hand written style), and I am proud of how I packaged each of the topics into easily digestible and short lessons. I also really like how at the end of each lesson I included a few questions that I answered in the following episode which enticed students to keep coming back for more.
If you get to the end of the series, you'll see in episode 10 I take up a full practice quiz. For this series I also wrote a practice tests that students could download at the end of episode 9 and complete, then get the answers for all the questions in episode 10. Overall I am very happy with how it turned out and often get comments asking "When is season 2 coming out!?"
Part 2: Media Evaluation & Lesson Write-Up
Please see the attached 2 page pdf, which includes a brief lesson writeup for how I would use this video, as well as my critique of design principles used in the video.
The video I chose for this assignment is, for some reason, my most popular video on my YouTube channel, with almost 100K views. Maybe because of it's simplicity? I don't know. Anyways, I hope you enjoy!
Part 3: Product 3 (free choice)
For the third piece of this week, I will share another project that I created that was near and dear to me. A number of years ago I produced a Global Ed Challenge where I challenged music teachers around the world to teach their students some songs from Star Wars on recorder, then record them in front of a green screen playing, then submit the videos of their students to me through FlipGrid.
To accomplish this I had to arrange all digital music to be able to be played on the recorder, produce tutorials and "play along" videos, then arrange all a background MIDI score to play along with the recordings, then mix the audio tracks, and edit the final video.
Final Video "Star Wars on Recorder"
Tutorial Videos for "Star Wars Main Theme" and "Imperial March"
