My name is Levent Erdoğan and I am in my 7th year of teaching, I have experience teaching a variety of programs classes and I am a specialist in Film & Media Arts education. Additionally, I am an Apple Distinguished Educator and a founding crew member of new Adobe Creative Educators program from Adobe for Education.
Teaching is my 2nd career, following a career working in the Los Angeles Film Industry, where I worked on over 2 dozen feature-length films. After leaving the film industry in 2010, I returned to my home town of Toronto, Canada, and soon after decided to go back to school for a new Honours degree in Kinesiology, as well as a Bachelors of Education. Having an extensive background in music, as well as sports and health, I had originally planned to be a music and phys-ed teacher, however, I soon learned I could leverage my background in filmmaking and expertise in digital media in my teaching career.
I have spent my entire teaching career teaching internationally in Hong Kong, where I am currently located, and have been teaching at a Canadian international school, where I teach middle school and primary students. However, starting this August, I will be switching to a new American international school, for which I will be developing a Film Production program for high school students. I am looking forward to this new challenge and opportunity for my personal growth.
As a passionate educator in media arts, my primary vision and goal as an educator is to inspire creativity in my students. I strive to do this in a multitude of ways. I teach my students a variety EdTech tools to empower them to bring their ideas to life in their own digital storytelling projects. I lead by example, as I often produce projects for, and with, my students. I teach them the creative process, and the importance of how to reflect on their own creations to help them improve. And I collaborate with my fellow educators to integrate innovative and creative learning experiences for students throughout a multitude of their classes.
Not only do I strive to help them understand how to exercise their creativity to produce various forms of digital artifacts in my classes, by encouraging their creativity, I am helping support them for their future, as research has shown that creativity is one of the most important soft skills that employers look for. This skill is an imperative skill to develop, as students who are more creative will have a higher chance of successfully navigating the digital world of the 21st century.
